Friends and former pupils of a Sheffield teacher who tragically died in a cycling accident are hoping for a large turnout at his funeral.

Malcolm Cottam, aged 55, of Norton Park Crescent, Norton, was killed following a crash on the Dronfield bypass on July 31.

Police were unable to identify him for a week as he had no identification on him and no one had reported him missing.

His funeral will take place at Barnsley Crematorium on August 29, at 2pm.

Friends and former students of Mr Cottam, who taught at The City School, want as many people who as possible to pay their respects.

Joanna Lodge, a former student, has put an appeal on Facebook for ex-pupils to attend.

“Myself and majority of my Facebook newsfeed were saddened to hear the death of our old beloved teacher.

“It breaks my heart to think of such a loving, caring man was missing for a week with no one looking for him.

“I think it would be brilliant if we came out in force to pay tribute to a lovely man who was in so many of our lives.”

Members of the Sherwood Forresters Longbow Archery Club, Barlborough, which he helped found, also plan to
attend his funeral.
