Life is sweet for Andrew Carnall after he fought off intense competition to be named Keylink Student Chocolatier of the Year.

The Sheffield City College student caterer took part in a gruelling five hour challenge against competitors from all over the north.

Together the rivals created their own pieces of chocolate heaven at the campus off Granville Road.

Each competitor had to produce 12 handmade truffles, 20 moulded pralines, a two portion chocolate plated dessert and a chocolate centrepiece with a summertime theme.

A top judging panel included Ruth Hinks, the UK World Chocolate Master 2012; master chocolatier Thierry Dumouchel and Julie Sharp, technical advisor from Callebaut’s Chocolate Academy.

Andrew impressed them all with his basil and sea salt truffles, wild thyme pralines, an English strawberry picnic dessert and a centrepiece based on Summer in the Steel City.

Bradley Mitchell, of Barnsley College and Carolanne Taylor, of Doncaster College, fought off competition from students from Edinburgh and Rochdale to be among the runners up.
