Sheffield indie stars Reverend and the Makers are celebrating tonight after their album Thirty Two smashed into the top 10 thanks to ‘people power’, said front man Jon McClure.

The mid-week place makes them the third highest new entry on the official BBC Radio 1 Chart and they’ve done it with little national airplay.

Thirty Two is performing better than the last album, called @Reverend_Makers, both with the midweek chart position and with sales being higher than the previous album at the same point, it is underrstood.

Jon, known affectionately as the Revernend, and the band helped to drive pre-orders of their new fourth studio album with a free draw, with the prize of playing live in some lucky fans’ homes.

Loyal ‘Rev Army’ supporters have also been making lots of noise about the CD on social network sites, including Twitter, using the hashtag #GetTheRevToNumberOne.

The Star has also been praised by the band for doing its bit - with a live stream gig from Sheffield Winter Garden, creating augmented music videos on the CD booklet and coverage of the album launch, including a signing session and gig at HMV in High Street,

Now the band are hoping for a final push to ensure holding a top 10 chart position at the end of the week.

Jon said of their mid-week position: “Absolutely made up. A testament to people power. Hope everyone keeps buying it and we might end up there.”
