New city TV channel raises thousands in share sale

A new television channel dedicated to Sheffield has raised more than £160,000 through a share sale.

More than 100 people have applied to become community shareholders in Sheffield Live TV, which is due to start broadcasting on Freeview from September 23.

Bosses had hoped to raise £150,000 to help fund the channel but beat their target by around £10,000. A total of £90,000 was pledged through community share applications, with £70,000 coming in social investment loans.

Steve Buckley, the chairman of the new TV channel and a director of Sheffield Community Media, said: “We are delighted that so many Sheffield people and organisations have shown their support for Sheffield Live TV and community-owned media by applying for community shares.”
