A Sheffield watercolour artist is using her skills to support a charity close to her heart.

Victoria Butterell has painted a one-off watercolour for the Sheffield Retired Greyhound Trust to auction off.

The 3ft painting, titled Sprite, features a greyhound donning a Tour de France yellow jersey in a nod to the sporting event which raced through Sheffield’s streets last week.

The painting was inspired by an eight-year-old greyhound named Eddie, whom Victoria is sponsoring through the trust until he finds a permanent home.

Bids on the creation are well under way via the trust’s website, Facebook page and Twitter account, with the highest offer currently standing at £500.

Joanne Chapman, of the Sheffield Retired Greyhound Trust, said the charity is delighted with the attention the painting is attracting and hopes to see the bids rise further before the auction ends on Friday, August 1.

She said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for someone to own a lovely one-off painting while helping to support a great cause.

“Victoria is very supportive of the trust.

“In addition to the Sprite painting, she has also designed a charity card which has sold really well.”
