SHEFFIELD Hallam University has been handed the keys to its new Furnival Building in Arundel Street in the Cultural Industries Quarter.
Ready for the autumn term, the five-storey complex will accommodate 240 staff and 1,600 students in the Faculty of Arts, Computing Engineering and Sciences.
Accepting the keys from the contractor HBG, university director of estates Alex Pettifer said: "This is a great achievement for the university and the estates team.
"The building will be the impressive new entry point to the campus, bringing us closer to our vision of two campuses interlinked by a variety of student accommodation."
The building incorporates energy-saving measures including solar panels on the roof to heat water, ground-source heat pumps for under-floor heating and 'intelligent' lighting that switches on and off depending on the amount of light in the room.
