Work has started on a war memorial in Storrs Wood in the Loxley Valley in tribute to victims of recent conflicts.
The wood is owned and managed by sculptor Andrew Vickers, of Stoneface Sculpture.
He will bring together an existing piece, ‘Remorse’, a stone sculpture inspired by the observed loss of a son serving in Afghanistan, with a new piece, a figure in stone, in a location where visitors can sit and reflect near Storrs Brook.
‘Remorse’ was commissioned by then Lord Mayor Graham Oxley. The cost of the memorial has been met by donations.
