There has been another week of excellent entries for our first theme ‘My Sheffield’.
This theme will run until March 16 before a winner is chosen to win the Canon G9X from Harrison on London Road.
Celebrating the people of Sheffield is one way some of our readers have followed our theme and this has inspired me to talk to you about how photographing people really can bring your image to life. You have more control when photographing static things like buildings or objects, but when you involve a person or animal there are more elements to consider.
If you are capturing an action shot of a person, like John Leigh’s pic of John Burkhill, then just ensure you are stood in the right position to be in with a chance of capturing the action and consider your composition to ensure your picture tells the story.
The composition of Michael Hardy’s image of the Women of Steel statue shows how using natural framing of the statue’s arm leads you through the image to the gathering crowd in the background to tell the story of the unveiling of the new statue. Keep your entries coming in, and I look forward to seeing your creativity with a camera.

Well, we are two weeks into the In Focus competition and still the standard of images submitted by readers continues to rise.
I’ve seen some really great pictures and some interesting interpretations of the theme ‘My Sheffield’.
If anyone would like to show us some images and get some feedback feel free to drop in to our London Road shop any time.
Also you can share your images with us on Instagram, Flickr and Facebook.
Visit Harrisons Cameras for details of our social media accounts.
If you’ve got a really good picture we may even choose to use it as part of our special photograph wall which has pride of place in the shop.
Also, this week club members can come in and receive a free 10x8 inch print, just by bringing in their image on a memory card, USB stick, CD or smartphone as well as the membership voucher from page 56 of this week’s Sheffield Telegraph.
We’ll even print it off while you wait.
Remember we’re also offering 10 per cent off all printing for club members too. Keep those entries coming in for the chance to win our Canon G9X worth £449.
