A simple meal changed the life of Fulwood writer Joanna Dobson when she stumbled upon an inspirational Yorkshire food movement, set to become a worldwide phenomenon.
Husband Julian, a regeneration consultant, had been invited to a lunch focusing on Todmorden’s Incredible Edible initiative; as it was Joanna’s birthday, she went along too.
And she was so excited by what she heard, and the enthusiasm of those involved, that she volunteered to write a book about it. That book is now about to become a reality.
Incredible! is the story of how Todmorden people began a food growing revolution. Visitors have been surprised to find tomatoes on the tow path, strawberries by the college and runner beans in the cemetery – and astonished to discover that they’re welcome to help themselves.
The initiative has transformed life in Todmorden and is now spreading fast, with more than 50 towns across the UK joining in and another 300 as far away as France, Canada and New Zealand.
Joanna was determined that their story should be told and spent two years writing the book – and raising £10,000 to pay for it. Incredible! will be published in April. See: www.joannadobson.com
