Members of Easy Street Youth Theatre will be transformed into Cats next week at the Montgomery Theatre+.
What audiences will see on stage is only half the story of the enterprise and hard work that has gone into the production.
The youngsters - who are the senior section of the theatre group based in Little London Road - were all tasked with raising money to help with the costumes necessary for such an elaborate show.
Each cast member was given £5 and told to come up with ideas to turn that into £35 which was the cost of hiring each wig.
Next week a team of volunteer face paintiers will take several hours to make up the cast and others have been busily knitting tails and leg-warmers for the costumes which include hand-painted unitards.
It’s all part of the training the youngsters get in backstage craft like lighting and stage management.
The musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber based on TS Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats is directed by Sallianne Foster-Major, East Street’s director, with choreography Amanda Tyas and musical director Gavin Usher.
Performances are Wednesday to Saturday. Tickets are £12/ £10
