An independent café that helped set the pace of change in Kelham Island is hoping to set a new trend – with the launch of a pop-up market.
The Grind, part of the old Cornwall Works at Green Lane, is renowned for its homemade food and gourmet coffee. Now customers can pop in for weekend brunch and also pick up fruit, vegetables, freshly-baked bread and preserves to take home with them.
The first of the occasional markets, last week, proved an immediate hit.
The Grind was opened in December 2010 by property developers Howard and Amanda Wade, with their office at the back.
Since then the surrounding area has evolved with a growing mix of trendy apartments, offices, pubs and restaurants.
The café is run on a day-to-day basis by manager Hayley Glover and chef Chris Wilkes.
Amanda Wade says: “The café has gone from strength to strength. And it’s wonderful to see the positive changes that have happened in the area since The Grind’s opening too.”
