Budding chefs at Silverdale School put their skills to the test in a Masterchef competition.

A series of heats produced 12 finalists – and a cook-off decided the final winners.

First was Gladys Kenyon (pictured), with runners-up Rebekah Albiston and Amber Thompson, all aged 14.

Judges included ex-Silverdale student Chris Bettles, now a chef at Baldwin’s Omega, and Les Rennie, executive chef at BrewKitchen.

Gladys’ winning menu featured goats cheese and red onion flatbread, followed by lemon tartlet with raspberries.

Teacher Jane Storey said: “Gladys showed a high level of skill and the dishes were presented very well. The standard was extremely high and all the dishes in the final were exceptional.”
