Home grown jam and chutney specialist Just Preserves is set to spread its empire.
After 12 years based in the Worrall kitchen of founders Keith and Heather Hoyland, the company has a new base – and a new boss in the shape of former café owner Matt Hulley.
Matt, who ran Hulley’s in Ecclesall Road until last summer, has joined forces with friends Chris Gillingham and Rob Smith to take over the business. Initially they are working with the Hoylands, who plan to retire once the transfer is complete.
The first batch of jam, chutney and marmalade rolled out of the new unit at Works 57 in Abbeydale last week.
“I’m still learning,” says Matt. “But I love food and cooking. We’ve taken over all the original recipes and I have some ideas of my own too, so there’s plenty of scope.”
Products are made in small batches using quality ingredients; natural sugar and vinegars are the only preservative.
Just Preserves produces around 40 different lines, including marmalades, jam, chutney, pickle and relish, which are sold at farmers’ markets, local outlets and wholesale across the area.
