This weekend offers a hattrick of reasons to raise a glass for landlords Keith and Hannah Robson of the Monsal Head Hotel…
It is exactly a year since the couple moved into the former coaching inn overlooking one of the Peak District’s most striking beauty spots.
They have just tied the knot – after putting their wedding on hold last year when the Monsal vacancy arose.
And tomorrow marks the start of a three-day beer festival at the Stables bar, showcasing ales from six local breweries.
“It’s a big celebration of the journey we’ve been on and the investment we’ve put into the team,” says Keith.
More than 30 beers will be on offer, with walkers and cyclists able to indulge at an outside ‘Fuggle station’, stocked by the Halfway-based Fuggle Bunny Brewery.
Highlights will include Stables bitter, specially rebranded by Sheffield’s Stancill Brewery; Wobbly Rambler, a Pennine brew named by guests at the Monsal’s first beer festival shortly after their arrival; and Ed’s Choice, a bright beer brewed by Fuggle Bunny and named in honour of Hannah’s father – who is making the journey to Derbyshire to take charge of the outdoor bar.
Local musicians will entertain guests throughout the three-day festival, with an eclectic programme of live music.
Two-hour sets will feature jazz, guitar, vocals and a range of acoustic music.
Since taking over at the Monsal Head a year ago, Keith and Hannah have overseen an extensive renovation programme that has included bedrooms, toilets in both hotel and bar, and a new boiler.
Now they want to celebrate the hotel’s new lease of life: “We tested the water with our first beer festival in February, but this time it’s gone epic!” says Keith.
“This is one of the largest micro-brewery events for many a year. We couldn’t be happier.”
