The team behind Rafters restaurant in Nether Green is taking on a sporting challenge – by running the bar and catering at Fulwood Sports Club.

Chef Tom Lawson and manager Alistair Myers, who took over at the award-winning fine dining restaurant two years ago, submitted a successful tender for the club in Chorley Road, Fulwood’s only licensed premises.

They take over next Thursday, October 1, and are planning a range of menus aimed at sports and social members.

“We will be using our experience to create a relaxed atmosphere with great food to provide members with a brilliant social hub,” says Alistair.

He and Tom first teamed up at Rowley’s in Baslow, then worked at the Devonshire Arms, Middle Handley, before becoming partners in Rafters.

Their experience of restaurants and pubs will help to create the right atmosphere, they say. In charge of day-to-day running will be experienced front-of-house colleague Kerry Proctor, while Rafters chef Jodi Wilson will take over the kitchen, supervised by Tom.

Menus will feature brunch, afternoon tea, light meals, sandwiches and snacks, mostly under £10. There is also a fixed-price supper club menu.

The club offers tennis, bowling, squash and snooker. It also has a bar, a 34-seat restaurant and outside terrace.

Food will be available from 5pm to 9pm on weekdays, 10am to 9pm on Saturdays and 10am to 2pm on Sundays.
