Tideswell delivers the goods

The Peak village of Tideswell made the national spotlight with its own brand of food. Now the community is reaching an even greater market, thanks to local entrepreneur Phil Stafford and his new online shopping service.

Phil’s home delivery service means that everything from fresh meat, bread, fruit and veg to gluten-free puddings, household products, firewood and garden supplies can be delivered to your door at the touch of a button.

All the goods come from local shops and producers, meaning customers are supporting the local economy too.

Phil set up Shop in Tideswell when he saw the growing popularity of veg boxes ordered from his sister’s greengrocery, Peaches.

“I saw that people really do want to support their local shops, but they don’t always have the time to shop locally,” says Phil. “So I spoke to the producers and village shops and got them on board.

“They’re really pleased with how it’s going and have seen a rise in sales as a result.”

Regular customers range from busy workers and local families to elderly people and holidaymakers.

And the service has already expanded to include special deliveries as far away as Anglesey and Northampton.

It is backed by Taste Tideswell, which starred in the BBC’s Village SOS series.

Chair Pete Hawkins said: “The Shop in Tideswell service is a real boon to our local shops and offers a great alternative to the big supermarkets. Prices are competitive and products are high quality.”
