TUCK BOX: Stars and Spanish flavour at Sheffield conference

Michelin-starred chef Nathan Outlaw is the star speaker at Sheffield’s Skills for Chefs conference.

The event on July 6 and 7 will bring together chefs and caterers from across the UK and beyond, also including Jordi Gallego from Madrid, who is creating Spanish menus.

Outlaw, who runs a restaurant in Cornwall, will also judge the finals of the Young Restaurant Team. Glam drummer turned Michelin chef Graham Garratt is to bring rock and roll to the demonstration theatre, while Sheffield College’s own Mick Burke is hosting a chocolate masterclass.

From canteen to celebrity

Former school cook Vicky Wainwright, now chef de partie at Marco’s New York Italian Sheffield, has won the inaugral Marco Pierre White chef awards.

The Arbourthorne mum’s oxtail lasagne with smoked garlic mash triumphed in the contest and will now become a special across the restaurant chain.

Vicky said: “It was a dream come true to cook for Marco. He has been an inspiration for my home cooking for years.”

Marco praised her dish as ‘fitting to the ethos of the food’ served by the chain.

Summer specials arrive

Takeaway Italia Uno, at Banner Cross, has launched summer special dishes, including limoncello tiramisu (£2.95) and linguine lucca with courgette and prawns. A loyalty card scheme has also begun.

Wheely good donation

Whirlow Hall Farm Trust, has taken delivery of a new chiller van to carry farm produce, courtesy of wholesale Fruit and Vegetable merchant GW Price.
