Antonio Carluccio, aged 77, godfather of Italian gastronomy, brought his special brand of charm – and food – to Sheffield on Tuesday when he launched the latest in the chain of restaurants bearing his name.
Carluccio’s, at 509 Ecclesall Road, offers the kind of simple, classic, authentic Italian food which has become the founder’s trademark: “Dishes have to taste well, not just look well. The major thing is the taste,” he said.
On his first visit to Sheffield, Carluccio, who now acts merely as a consultant to the group, admitted to being impressed by the vitality of Ecclesall Road and the greenness of the surrounding area.
The new restaurant will serve freshly cooked food from 8am to 11pm and also host cookery classes and events.
