TREMELOES legend Brian Poole was the voice of some of the biggest hits of the 1960s, including Twist And Shout, Candy Man, Good Lovin’ and the band’s first number one Do You Love Me.

But he couldn’t utter a word when he was invited backstage to meet the band who had inspired him, Buddy Holly and the Crickets.

“To this day I wish dearly that I had spoken to the guys, but I didn’t.

“I was totally starstruck,’’ says the now 70-year-old.

It was Holly’s sound engineer Norman Petty, the pioneer record producer who helped to shape modern popular music, who gave The Tremeloes what Brian regards as his favourite hit, Someone Someone.

“Norman Petty sat in on the session and played guitar and piano. Every time I listen to that I think yes - that’s the real Crickets,’’ he told The Star.

All the hits and more will feature on the bill with Herman’s Hermits star Peter Noone (I’m Into Something Good), Chris Montez (Let’s Dance), Brian Hyland (Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini), all backed by Vanity Fair, for the Solid Silver 60s Show, at Sheffield City Hall, on March 6, then Buxton Opera House, March 7.
