Exclusive: Steps backstage chat and review at Sheffield Motorpoint Arena - VIDEO

STEPS-TACULAR! That’s the dazzling, fun-filled, comeback show from 1990s pop sensations Steps - who thrilled a sell-out crowd at Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena earlier this month and return on April 27, 2012.

The only Tragedy would be to miss it when the fab five are back for an added date to end their Ultimate Tour in the steel city, writes digital editor Graham Walker.

Steps Ultimate Tour is a epic production, with a huge interactive video-wall forming the backdrop of the stage, an amazing light show and this ultimate pop event punctuated with pyrotechnics.

Steps, complimented by funky dancers, parade glitzy co-ordinated outfits, perform all their memorable trademark dance routines and oh yes, they belt out the greatest hits which sold an astonishing 15-million records.

This slick production doesn’t miss a beat, from first single 5,6,7,8 to the show stoppers of Better The Devil You Know, Heartbeat, One For Sorrow, Chain Reaction, Dancing Queen - their comeback single produced by Sheffield’s own Eliot Kennedy - and, yes, Tragedy.

It’s a decade since the acrimonious split, featured in last year’s Steps Reunion Sky TV series.

But when Claire Richards, Faye Tozer, Lisa Scott-Lee, Ian “H” Watkins and Lee Latchford-Evans first emerge back on stage from futuristic time capsules, it’s like they’ve never been away.

The Steps experience was never just about the music. It’s about having fun. Fans, many in pink stetsons and glowing devil horns - and that was just the guys - still religiously follow all the dance moves. Some will scoff, claiming it’s all a bit too cheesy and contrived.

But in these days of economic gloom, job losses and panic at the petrol pumps, there’s nothing wrong with a feel-good factor night out at an arena packed-to-the-rafters.

That’s especially true when the audience, mainly female and of a maturing age, simply want to roll back the years for two hours or so, to relive more care free times of hen party nights and karaoke bars, when the only worry was remembering the moves to Deeper Shade Of Blue.

SET LIST: Here and Now, You’ll Be Sorry, Deeper Shade of Blue, Last Thing On My Mind, Better Best Forgotten, Love’s Got A Hold On My Heart, 5,6,7,8, Summer of Love, Better the Devil You Know, Moves Like Jagger/S&M, One Night Only, Don’t Stop Believin’, Heaven/Beautiful People/Lately, I Surrender, It’s The Way You Make Me Feel, Heartbeat, When I Said Goodbye, One for Sorrow, Stomp, Chain Reaction, Dancing Queen and Tragedy.
