Tasmin Little and Martin Roscoe, Crucible Studio
Award-winning violinist Tasmin Little and internationally-renowned pianist Martin Roscoe perform together at Music in the Round’s Spring Series for the first time tomorrow night.
They are playing Brahms’ Sonatensatz, Beethoven’s Violin Sonata in E flat Op.12 No.3 and his Violin Sonata in A Op.12 No.2, Schubert’s Sonatina in A minor D.385 and Franck’s Violin Sonata in A.
Music in the Round say: “Three Viennese classics are framed by later music.
“Brahms’ one-movement Sonatensatz was part of a three-movement Violin Sonata written in collaboration with two other composers as a gift to Joseph Joachim.
“Franck’s Violin Sonata was composed as a wedding present for another great virtuoso – Eugène Ysaÿe – and first performed at his marriage celebrations.
“Using Franck’s favourite cyclic form, with themes recurring in each movement, it draws on the formal symmetry of the Classical style, seen through the eyes of a passionate late- Romantic composer.”
Tasmin is an international violinist who has an OBE and currently has an album, The Lark Ascending, recorded with the BBC Philharmonic, in the classical charts.
She is also well-known for her Naked Violin project, which included the release of free tracks to download from her website, www.tasminlittle.net, with a three-step challenge to encourage new listeners to attend a concert.
Tasmin and Martin are holding a short question-and-answer session after the concert.
