The 55-year-old – currently performing in America – has also filmed a special video, for his YouTube channel at braggcentral, announcing the album. He suggests he may tour this year in the UK.

“Hopefully, me and the guys will see you out on the road somewhere later this year,” he says. Watch it also at thestar.co.uk/video

Tooth & Nail, on Cooking Vinyl records, is out Monday, March 18, as a CD, LP and a limited special edition CD+DVD Bookpack.

The rocker, who topped the UK singles chart in 1988 with She’s Leaving Home, is celebrating 35 years in the business, blending folk, punk rock and protest songs.

But Tooth & Nail draws on personal rather than political themes, for which he’s best known.

He said: “I often find myself having to remind people that I am also the Sherpa of Heartbreak, as somebody on Twitter called me, writing songs about the struggle to maintain our relationships.”
