Sheffield’s legendary JuJu Club returns on Saturday with an African music flavoured gig at The Harley on Glossop Road.
The club is famous for bringing live global dance music to Sheffield in the 90s and early noughties and now it is back with a line-up featuring three Sheffield bands with a strong flavour of Afrobeat, funk, reggae and ska.
The night starts at 7.30pm and is healdlined by K.O.G. & The Zongo Brigade, an 11-piece band driven by multi-instrumentalist and singer Kweku Sachey and with strong influences from Nigeria and Ghana alongside ragga, hip hop and several other genres, including, amazingly, touches of opera.
Also on the bill are Truly Apparent, fronted by vocalists Shazzlyn and Eneta, with their programme of reggae and ska songs, and The Hot Diamond Aces playing funk and Afrobeat. A club night follows at 10.30pm.
- Richard Thompson, below, widely acclaimed as one of the country’s greatest singer songwriters and guitarists will play Buxton Opera House on August 24.
