Shoppers will bag a little extra in Sheffield stores this weekend when bands pop in to perform among the clothing rails.

Popular act The Crookes is included in the line-up for the first free City Centre Sessions event - on Saturday, August 10, 2013.

It is billed as a ‘trail of musical moments’, with acts travelling across the city to sing to crowds, and is part of Sheffield Council’s Summer Saturdays campaign to boost trade.

Acts will take to the stage on Devonshire Green, Division Street and Orchard Square as well as in independent shops A New Shop and Bird’s Yard.

Sheffield singer songwriter Nat Johnson, the city’s Bevox choir and American band Laurel Canyons are also to perform.

Kate Hewatt, from the Tramlines team which is organising the trail, said: “This is all part of the council’s Summer Saturdays campaign to bring a bit more vibrancy to the city centre during the summer, getting people to come into town.

“As the team behind Tramlines, we really wanted to get something together that reflected the local talent that we have in the city.

“There are 12 acts performing throughout the day. They’ll be doing sets of around 20 minutes to half an hour and it will be mostly acoustic or really stripped down performances.”

The event runs from noon until 5pm.
