SOUTH Yorkshire dementia charity Lost Chord is appealing for fresh musical talent.

The charity that provides musical experiences in care homes for people with dementia is looking for professional musicians to add to its list of players who maintain the organisation’s music service.

Among the musicians already playing for Lost Chord is harpist Amanda Whiting, who has been taking part for more than 10 years.

“Lost Chord allows you to develop your skills in a very special way,” she said. “It’s about connecting with people and putting music across for people to enjoy in any way they can, whether singing, playing percussion instruments or dancing – you can never tell!”

Lost Chord chief executive Helena Muller will hold auditions in Sheffield in June.

“We need musicians with a tremendous empathy for what we are doing,” she said.

“This isn’t always an easy environment to perform in but the work they will do will stimulate some lovely responses, even though it might just be a smile or the squeeze of a hand.”
