BIG band fans will be getting in the swing with our fantastic competition today to win tickets and meet the stars backstage at a huge outdoor charity concert backed by The Star.
Party In The Park, a celebration of the big band era, expects to attract 3,000 people and is jointly organised by Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and Ashgate Hospice, with the aim of raising vital funds.
It takes place at the Bakewell Showground on Saturday, September 1,Sheffield singing sensation Paul Pashley is top of the bill - showcasing classic standards and new material written by Take That’s Gary Barlow, rock legend Bryan Adams and the city’s Grammy award-winning producer, Eliot Kennedy.
Paul and his 17-piece big band also perfrorm swing arrangements of modern pop favourites, ranging from hits by the Arctic Monkeys to Thin Lizzy.

Special guests include Andy Abraham, who to fame as runner up to Shayne Ward in the X Factor final in 2005.
Andy’s debut album sold 176,000 copies in its first week and he is currently touring the UK with his show The History of the Big Bands, with classics such as In the Mood and Take The A-Train.
Sheffield singer songwriter Philippa Hanna, one of the UK’s brightest new talents, has been captivating audiences around the globe with her songs and stories - she is also be on the bill.
More acts will be announcded and all entertainment is provided by LGI Enterprises.
Vintage and memorabilia stalls, plus a range of refreshments, will also be on offer at the Bakewell Showground from 2pm. The show starts at 4pm.
Music lovers are being urged to turn up in retro war-time outfits but they are being promised more than a nostalgic trip down memory lane to round off the summer’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
Bluebell Wood, which has its roots in Doncaster, is based at North Anston and serves families across South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire, North Derbyshire and North West Lincolnshire. It receives no statutory government funding and needs to raise £3m each year to continue its work.
Ashgate Hospice, in Chesterfield, provides specialist palliative care to adults from across North Derbyshire and annually needs to bring in £2.3m from fundraising.
