CHART-topper Joe McElderry will bring the X Factor to Sheftival with a world exclusive - the first live performance with his band of new single Here’s What I Believe, writes Graham Walker.

The special preview, at Sheffield’s new music and sports festival, comes ahead of the song’s radio push next week and single release on August 10.

“I’ve performed it a couple of times with backing tracks but this will be the first time with my band. It sounds great in rehearsals. I can’t wait - it’s going to be a massive party on stage,” Joe told The Star.

Joe, who will appear at Sheftival on the Real Radio at Don Valley Bowl on Saturday, August 4, at 4.30pm, explained the story behind the track: “Here’s What I Believe is a feel good break-up song, about deciding it’s time to move on.

“But I also wanted to call the album that, not just because of that song, but this album is where I believe I am right now. “It’s the album I’ve been dying to make for a long time, including songs I’ve written, some more original songs and a couple of covers people might not expect me to sing.

“It’s very exciting for us to perform in Sheffield, especially at a festival. You get such a mixed audience of people with different music tastes. That’s what makes it so interesting. We’re doing 30-minutes - five or six tracks, including three new songs.”

The 21-year-old, who is one of 80 acts playing at Sheftival over the weekend, won the sixth series of ITV’s X Factor in 2009 and then Popstar to Operastar in 2011,

He has gone on to already sell almost 400,000 records.

He said: “As an artist you want to progress and move forward, not back. But I love X Factor. I’m a massive fan. It’s where I got my break. Without that show nothing else would have happened. I wouldn’t have gone on to Popstar To Operastar. I wouldn’t have been signed.

“I’ve had so many amazing experiences that I don’t want to forget it. I want to build on it.”
