Fifty years ago this weekend The Beatles played the second date of their Autumn Tour at Sheffield’City Hall. It was to be the Fab Four’s fourth and final appearance at the venue.
They had already appeared there that year supporting American acts Chris Montez and Tommy Roe in March and Roy Orbison in April but by now Beatlemania had really taken off and the y were back in their own right.
They played a 10-song set of I Saw Her Standing There, From Me To You, All My Loving, You Really Got A Hold On Me, Roll Over Beethoven, Boys, Till There Was You, She Loves You, Money (That’s What I Want) and Twist And Shout – if anyone could hear above the screaming.
Here Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr mingle with beehive- coiffed young fans. John Lennon is out of shot.
