VIDEO/AUDIO: Scouting For Girls at Doncaster Racecourse - WIN TICKETS

Horse racing fans in South Yorkshire can expect some top tips on how to be a Millionaire this weekend from pop favourites Scouting For Girls, writes Graham Walker.

The trio – who are performing after Saturday’s August 3 meeting at Doncaster Racecourse –are promoting their Greatest Hits album, including new single, Millionaire.

But don’t bet on a cash winfall.

The song is about finding a soul mate who makes you feel a million dollars - not winning a fortune at the bookies, as bass player Greg Churchouse told us.

Greg said of their new single: “It’s a lovely happy tune, about when you meet the right person they make you feel like a million dollars. It’s back to classic Scouting For Girls.”

But, he admits, the band – childhood friends Greg, lead singer Roy Stride and drummer Peter Ellard – may also take time out before the gig to share some tips and help fans win a million dollars.

Greg said: “I enjoy a flutter. I used to go on the names of the horses, which I thought sounded coolest. But that way you never make any money.

“The trick we found, playing racecourses, was to hang around where all the trainers are – that’s where you can get the best tips.

“Follow us on Twitter @Scouting4Girls and we’ll be putting some tips out if we get any gems.”

Doncaster is the first of their summer tour of racecourses.

There are also plans for a November UK tour, before they return to the studio.

The Doncaster gig is a rare chance to catch them live in the region, playing new songs and greatest hits such as This Ain’t A Love Song, Heartbeat, Famous, Elvis Ain’t Dead, It’s Not About You and She’s So Lovely.

Tickets for the UNISON Raceday on Saturday, followed by Scouting For Girls live, are priced from £30, or £11 for under-18s, and may be subject to booking fee.

Gates open at noon with the first of seven races at 2.25pm. The last race is at 5.50pm. No picnics are allowed and times are subject to change.
