Roy Wood’s Rock & Roll Band, Sheffield City Hall
Incredibly, Christmas 2013 marks 40 years since Wizzard’s song Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day hit the airwaves of every house in the land (as it has done every Christmas since).
The 40-year anniversary tour will bring together all of lead singer Roy Wood’s biggest hits including his songs from The Move, such as I Can Hear The Grass Grow, Flowers In The Rain, California Man and Blackberry Way, as well as Wizzard hit See My Baby Jive, along with some Christmas additions.
Roy Wood is arguably most recognisable for being the frontman of 1970s glam rock group Wizzard and penning the Christmas hit which has been officially re-released at least eight times.
On its original release, the song only reached number four in the charts after being beaten by Slade’s hit, Merry Xmas Everybody.
Although the days of the long, white blonde wig and glam make-up that he wore so memorably on Top of the Pops are behind him, Roy is still planning to host a brilliantly festive Christmas party.
His musical expertise is wide ranging and dynamic, going far beyond the tinkling tones of the 1973 Christmas hit. It stretches into the realms of classical music, progressive rock and jazz fusion.
A mellower sound can be heard in his earlier hits during the 60s with The Move and with ELO.
Expect a diverse selection of music for this commemorative anniversary show, mixing musical styles which have made Roy Wood recognised far beyond his pop hits.
