THE curtain goes up today on our Mother’s Day prize to win your mum a night out at the theatre - celebrating The Daughter-in-Law at Sheffield’s Crucible.

First prize also includes a bouquet of flowers courtesy of Sheffield Theatres partner florist, Monika f Hewitt, a two-course dinner for two from the pre-theatre dinner menu at Crucible Corner, Sheffield Theatre’s cafe bar in Tudor Square, plus an overnight stay for two at the award-winning boutique Leopold Hotel Sheffield.
We have three other pairs of tickets to be won to see the show, also next Tuesday.
Winners will be informed before Sunday so they can surprise their mums with our prizes on Mother’s Day.
The Daughter-in-Law, running until Saturday, March 23, explores the bonds between a mother and her sons, between husband and wife, desire and freedom, as the relationships are stretched to breaking point.
Leading the cast are Lynda Baron (Open All Hours) as Mrs Gascoyne, the overbearing mother-in-law who disapproves of her socially ambitious daughter-in-law Minnie, played by Claire Price, winner of the UK Theatre Award for Best Supporting Actress in The Pride.
Philip McGinley (Straight, Hobson’s Choice) plays newly-wed miner Luther Gascoyne, with Andrew Hawley as his brother Joe, Marlene Sidaway (Macbeth) as Mrs Purdy and David Chafer (Lives in Art) as Cabman. It’s Directed by Paul Miller with design from Simon Daw and lighting by Mark Doubleday.
