This modern tale of power and sexual politics comes from new Chesterfield-based theatre company, Scene One.

Helen and Julian have just moved to their new home in Hampstead, which mother bought for them.

Helen’s stressful job in PR introduces her to Myles, a new boss who she invites to dinner.

What happens causes Helen to make life-changing choices.

Writer and director Gary Brashier graduated from drama school in 2005 and has directed plays and variety shows in London.

Woodcut is the first play he has written. Gary started Scene One company in Chesterfield last May “to provide a platform for writers, producers and actors to develop ideas and create a new magic”.

Gary said: “This modern drama deals with so many current issues, perceived life values, societies’ expectations, work politics, emotional abuse, sexual politics.

“But is not all tragic, there’s a large dollop of comedy in this too.”

Cast includes Canan Cahit, playing Suzie, a member of the City Players Amateur dramatic group in Eckington for four years. The score is by DJ, producer and Drop Music label owner Laurence Ritchie. Woodcut is at Lantern Theatre,Sheffield from January 29 to February 1.
