Terry Gilliam lets his imagination run riot in this dystopian futuristic fantasy that has obvious echoes to Brazil. Reclusive computer genius Qohen Leth (Christoph Waltz) is employed by the Orwellian organisation Corporation ManCom to spend hours in front of his keyboard creating lines of complex code while waiting for the telephone call that should give meaning to his humdrum existence.
Qohen’s boss (Matt Damon) allows him to work from the ancient derelict church he calls home for a new project and this change of surroundings has a dramatic effect on the hermit. Boss’ son Bob (Lucas Hedges) gatecrashes Qohen’s carefully ordered world along with dwarves and a voluptuous escort girl (Melanie Thierry), who distracts him from the task at hand. As his universe spins off its axis, Qohen must adapt or crash and burn.
