La Parrilla Tapas Bar & Grill: Meet the team behind the restaurant that brings the Mediterranean to Sheffield

Serving the ‘best of the Mediterranean’ cuisine, La Parrilla Tapas Bar & Grill opened on the vibrant Sharrow Vale Road in August. Heading up the restaurant are co-owners Muhammad Abu Horayra Azad in the kitchen, and Rupam Saha in the front of house, and Angela Street.
La Parrilla took over the former premises of Bella Donna Sicilian, and is bringing new charm to the stretch of independent businesses.
Rupam, aged 33, moved from London for the new venture. He said: “We have been talking about opening a restaurant for around seven years. We wanted somewhere with a relaxed family atmosphere. For us it’s not about the money, the most important thing is that customers leave the door with a smile on their face.”
After years of working in customer support, Rupam believes providing excellent customer service is crucial for success, and that is what he strives for.
He said: “If the customer is happy with the service and the food, then they will tell their families and friends and come back. We’ve earned the trust of many regular customers and have had lots of good reviews.”
For 38-year-old Azad, he had long dreamed of owning a restaurant of his own since discovering his passion for cooking while studying engineering in Canada.
After years of building up his skills in various restaurants, when Azad met his wife, Jannatul Ferdousi, he then helped his brothers-in-law in opening a hugely successful restaurant in Doncaster - La Fiesta.
Azad said: “I’ve been working in restaurants for 25 years in the front and back. I love cooking, it’s a passion for me. Having this business is an amazing feeling, I have created something on my own, with inspiration from my in-laws.”
He added thanks to Gary Street who helped to secure and refurbish the restaurant, and his mother and late father for their support.
