Officers investigating the murder of an Italian-born pizza chef in Sheffield have issued a fresh appeal for witnesses as new evidence changes the police timeline of events.

Carlo Giannini, aged 34, was found dead in Manor Fields Park, off City Road, on May 12 at 5am, with a post-mortem concluding that the Italian national, who was living in Arbourthorne, had died of a stab wound. New CCTV evidence has led investigators to believe he entered the park at 1.18am that morning, however, his movements up until his death remain unknown.

The new appeal comes after officers originally asked for potential witnesses to come forward in May, when they believed Carlo had entered the park around 11.13pm on Wednesday, 11 May, 2022. With the new CCTV footage prompting a fresh callout, Detective Chief Inspector Becky Hodgman said: “It’s essential we build up a clear picture of the activity in and around the park in the early hours of 12 May.

"We are looking to speak to those pictured as potential witnesses to the most serious of crimes. If you recognise yourself or someone you know in the images, please get in touch as soon as possible.”

Carlo’s family recently spoke of their devastation, urging anyone with information of their son’s murder to come forward to help investigators. From their home in Italy, they said: “Carlo has a family whose heart has been broken and left with a piece of them missing. Carlo was a man full of life and with a lot of passion for his work. He loved his family, he loved life, he loved his friends.

"Carlo deserves to rest in peace and, along with justice, this is the minimum we can give to him after his life was taken from him. Because no-one has the right to kill.”
