Two people killed in a car crash in Barnsley have been named in media reports as an NHS nurse and her boyfriend.

The collision occurred on Huddersfield Road at around 1am this morning when a car hit a tree.

Both the driver and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

National media are now reporting that the couple involved were 24-year-old Jack Nunn and his girlfriend Hannah Elsworth, 22.

According to a report in the Mirror, the pair had dropped off their friends minutes before the crash.

It adds that Hannah was an NHS nurse at Barnsley Hospital.

South Yorkshire Police said: “We received a report at around 1am this morning of a collision on Huddersfield Road, Barnsley.

“It is reported that a car had collided with a tree.

“Both the driver and the passenger were sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. Enquiries continue.”

No further details have been released.
