Paul Heckingbottom's 'strong' verdict as Sheffield United beat Hull City to go back to top of league

United took all three points back to Sheffield for the first time this season courtesy of goals from Oli McBurnie, his third in three games, and Sander Berge, who put aside a summer of speculation over his future to seal his side victory.

But the victory was overshadowed when Heckingbottom confirmed that young defender Kyron Gordon reported receiving racial abuse from the Hull end in the second half, with the Tigers confirming they are investigating the incident.

"Strong. I thought we were strong," Heckingbottom said of his side's display.

"We came to a tough place where they've won all their games and scored lots of goals and I think they had two attempts in the first half and none in the second?

"We were strong, we played well and controlled the game. And managed to take some of our chances at the other end.

"I thought we were in control, they didn't have a shot in the second half. We were comfortable but to get a second goal does make it that little bit easier.

"When there's only one goal in it you're a little bit fearful, is there going to be that one chance? But we managed to get it eventually and saw the game out as well."

United were indebted to a stunning first-half double save from goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, to deny the in-form Óscar Estupiñán and preserve a well-earned clean sheet.
