Husband and wife duo Matt Bigland and Nina Patel-Bigland have once again welcomed customers to The Milestone.

They closed the pub, Green Lane, Kelham Island, to re-work their offering and focus on the food they love.

Matt said: “Mixing heritage with modernity has always been the driving force at The Milestone.

“Housed in the oldest industrial site in Sheffield, we serve dishes that stir up memories and awaken the taste buds.

“At The Milestone we don’t buy anything if we can make it ourselves, including bread, pasta, chutneys and ice cream. It’s about being close to raw ingredients which is really something that matters to us.”

Matt and Nina’s passion for exciting, from-scratch food, is something that is shared by their new head chef Patrick Bond.

Patrick said: “There's something about Sheffield that drew me in: I just wanted to be here. We want to bring the pub back to basics.

“I'm inventive when I'm relaxed, and we want The Milestone to be inventive and exciting; a community pub where people are comfortable to try different things and chat to the team.”

Matt and Nina have also recruited a new assistant manager, Isabella Phillips. Her background is all about wine, and together they plan to launch a Wine and Spirit Education Trust accredited wine school in the summer.

Isabella said: “At The Milestone, I'm looking forward to coming up with new events to do with wine, including as the wine school and making it more of a focus and experience for our guests."

The relaunch of The Milestone saw an exciting array of dishes hit the tables, including pig cheeks on toast with lashings of Henderson’s Relish, pig’s head terrine with black pudding, devilled sauce and confit egg yolk and a melt-in-the-mouth Dexter steak with a jus split with duck fat.

Patrick’s printed menu is short, around four starters and five main courses, but there is also a blackboard of special dishes displayed throughout the restaurant to accompany the regular menu.

Isabella’s new wine list saw a range of natural, low sulphite and biodynamic wines introduced to the menu, alongside some more mainstream wines.

The Milestone is open now, but has new opening hours. It is open Monday 12pm to 11pm, Thursday 12pm to 11pm, Friday and Saturday 12pm to 11.30pm and Sunday 12pm to 8pm. It is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
