Sheffield’s student population has a new common room on the doorstep following the relaunch of The Cavendish – among the first in a new style of student-friendly pubs.
The West Street venue, directly opposite the university campus, is only the second in a new UK chain run by Stonegate, whose other brands include Scream, Yates and Varsity.
On offer are craft beers, cocktails and a coffee shop-style grab-and-go counter serving tea, coffee and snacks from 8am.
But the hook for students is likely to be the IT equipment: from superfast broadband and free wi-fi-linked printer to tabletop USB and interactive jukebox.
“We listened to our student customers about what they most wanted from their local,” said general manager Stephanie Bishop, “and have created what we believe is a new style of pub, perfect for the modern day student.”
Head chef, the appropriately-named Dan Feast, is serving a menu of burgers, hotdogs and all-day breakfast. Deals include burger and a pint for £6.45 before 7pm.
A choice of five craft beers – a new student trend – includes third-pint taster trays or three-pint flagons to share.
