SHEFFIELD Children’s Hospital finance expert Elsa Yau is preparing to trek along the Great Wall of China in September to raise money for the hospital charity.

She will join a team of fundraisers including former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan, who is patron of the charity, and his wife, Nichola, on the four-day adventure.

Elsa, aged 37, who is assistant director of finance at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, has started training for the trek on which she will walk for up to eight hours a day.

“The only exercise I get these days is a two minute walk from my car to the office,” she said. “Walking boots are not my usual choice of footwear but I shall be prepared for the blisters!”

The group will stay with local people on route. Elsa, who has been at the hospital for 15 years, was born in Sheffield, but lived in Hong Kong for nine years.

She visited her grandmother, who still lives there, last January and she can read and write Chinese and speak Cantonese.

She has never been to mainland China.
