George Elliott is a retail consultant with The Source skills academy and a fanatical Owl. He lives in Hillsborough with wife Brenda and says, like his ageing Saab, he is “not as fast as I used to be, but still capable of occasional bursts of speed and excitement”.
Are you a cook? My first job was apprentice sous chef at the Royal Victoria Hotel, but now I only dabble at home.
Any cooking tips? Overcooking is the biggestmistake – avoid mush and go for crisp textures.
What’s your favourite dish? Fillet of beef Wellington if I’m eating out.
And a drink to go with it? A soft red Bordeaux.
Your favourite restaurant in the Sheffield area? I love the style, menu and freedom of Chao Baby at Meadowhall – traditional Thai food.
And pub? The Porter Brook – great staff, good value food and a fantastic atmosphere.
The worst meal you’ve had? Stuffed red peppers in Ocean City, New Jersey. Let’s just say I tasted them twice and neither episode was very pleasant.
And the best? My mum’s traditional Sunday roast, served with that beautiful smile. I’d give a lot to have one more of those.
Your favourite TV cook? Lorraine Pascalle, who portrays the art of cooking as it should be.
What do you think of Sheffield as a place to eat out? Budget to high-end menus from across the globe. Still a bit behind Leeds and Manchester, but improving.
