Nick Middleton is catering manager at Owlerton Greyhound Stadium, home to the largest restaurant in Sheffield. He lives with his wife Katie in Stannington.
Are you a cook?
Yes, but when I’m not working I prefer someone else to do the cooking for me!
Any cooking tips?
Use fresh, locally sourced produce if you can. It really does make a huge difference.
What’s your favourite dish?
Anything Thai or Chinese.
And a drink to go with it?
Probably an ice cold pint of Peroni.
Your favourite restaurant in the Sheffield area?
I’d have to say the Panorama restaurant! But Napoleon’s next door to Owlerton Stadium is fantastic and I love All Siam on Ecclesall Road.
My local, the very welcoming Peacock at Stannington. Knowing the landlord as a friend, ex- boss and drinking partner definitely has its advantages!
What’s the worst meal you’ve ever had?
I went travelling round the world for six months and ate some very questionable food. In Malaysia, especially, there were a lot of things I’d rather forget I’d eaten!
The best meal you’ve ever had?
At Gary Rhodes’ restaurant, Twenty Four, on the 24th floor of one of London’s tallest buildings. The whole experience was amazing.
Your favourite TV cook?
At the moment, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall
Your opinion of Sheffield as a place to eat out?
It’s great. There’s a real variety of food at any budget, so there’s something for everyone.
