Sheffield woman raffles off her 19th century cottage for charity at just £2 a ticket - and city boxer will pick the winner

When it comes to raising cash for charity, Tricia Turedi knows how to do it in monumental style.

The Banner Cross resident and her family are raffling off her 19th century gorgeous stone cottage in aid of The Children’s Hospital Charity.

“I was looking for a way to raising a substantial amount of money to give to the charity,” said semi retired bookkeeper Trisha, who hopes to raise £50,000 from the raffle and cover the market value of her home.

“I sincerely support the vital work they do. In the past I have raised money by walking, running and, my last one - sky diving from 15,000 feet. Another way of raising money materialised as I had been working on plans to sell my house. A raffle of the cottage seemed like the perfect solution.

“TCHC is a charity that’s close to my heart. Most of our family have been cared for by its wonderful staff, and now it is my privilege to be able to give back with the raffle of my home.”

The pandemic has caused a 35 per cent drop in the hospital charity’s annual fundraising.

Former World Champion boxer Johnny Nelson, an ambassador for Sheffield Hospitals Charity, is also lending his support to the cause as he will draw the winning ticket later in the year. The winner will also win £5,000. Tricia’s two bedroom cottage is described as being in a ‘desirable, quiet corner of Banner Cross, close to all amenities.’

It lies over four floors, has a sun-dappled, tranquil garden and is only ten minutes from the Peak District National Park, located on Brincliffe Hill. Archive records show it dates back to between 1850 and 1890.

Tricia has lived there for ten years and she and her family decided to raffle the house after they tried to buy a house in Buxton to become a holiday let, but that plan fell through when the pandemic hit.

They have set up a website called to run the raffle from and hope, if it is a success, to repeat it with other properties as a family business. The competition runs until August. Tickets cost £2 each.

Money raised will help Sheffield Children’s where it is needed most, including by redeveloping the cancer and leukaemia ward.
