As the company approaches the end of its first year, John Morfitt, of Morfitt Smith looks back on what has been an incredible journey and looks forward to a bright, busy future.
When we started to talk about Morfitt Smith, I knew right from the outset what I wanted to achieve in terms of service and reputation. To bring about the old fashioned values of putting the client first and creating a personal, welcoming office where you are known, rather than feeling like just another number on a spreadsheet.
I think we have just about managed to do that, and our list of happy, satisfied customers is growing by the day.
Of course, old fashioned values are great, but we also need to realise we are in the 21st Century and technology plays a vital part in selling houses, and helps us to create that personal service. We can therefore tailor a package to suit every client and you can choose your preferred contact method, be that face-to-face in the office, telephone or email.
It also helps that we are that small, independently run agent, with no giant, faceless call centres, which means, as a client, you always get to speak to the same person. We have found this approach works, in terms of both sales and lettings, and the feedback we have been receiving is positive and we hope to build on this for the future.
In just under a year, we were surprised to find ourselves with our 100th sales listing. So much so, that it came upon us without having a chance to celebrate it! We have also sold more than 70% of those listings, many for the full asking price or over.
We were also surprised, but happy, to see that month on month, we have been consistently listed in the top 10, sometimes top 5, of agents listings in our area from the property portals we use, which shows we must be doing something right.
Obviously, with any new business, there are highs and lows, peaks and troughs, but throughout it all I can honestly say, it has been a great year. I love going to a potential clients home and providing an honest appraisal of the property’s value, and how best to achieve that price. But it is not just about selling or renting.
We’re only happy when you are happy, and we will do our utmost to take you through the many hurdles in buying, selling and renting property.
As we approach our birthday celebrations, I would like to take the opportunity to thank firstly, the team, Michael Tonks, Karen Woffindin and more recently, Alex Cocker, for their hard work, professionalism and support over the last year. To our friends and families for their encouragement and belief and most importantly, our clients, for trusting in a new agent and believing in our business. Without you, we could not have done this.
So much so, that we would love to see everyone for our “official” birthday celebrations on Saturday 6th September at our office in Hillsborough to enjoy a slice of birthday cake with us. As far as the future goes, the one thing I am most looking forward to is being known as “John from Morfitt Smith”, and not “the new agent up the road”.
