The Waggon & Horses at Millhouses reopened this week, with a fresh Italian flavour – and a familiar face behind the bar.
The pub has undergone a £350,000 refurbishment to become part of the Pesto chain. And the man at the helm is local boy Andi Ferguson, back in town after several years away.
Born in Darnall, Andi was a familiar face at Santino’s in Ecclesall Road and Hanrahans, Glossop Road, before heading for the bright lights of Manchester. He is now leading a 30-strong staff at the refurbished Abbeydale Road South venue.
This week’s reopening marks a fresh start for the Waggon & Horses. It will continue to operate as a pub, with a range of cask ales, but it now also offers an extensive range of Italian dishes.
The Pesto brand – this is the eighth in the UK – specialises in ‘piattini’ or small plates; a kind of Italian tapas. The menu boasts over 40 dishes, most under £4.
Andi says: “We offer traditional Italian food served in relaxed surroundings. I’m very much looking forward to living back in Sheffield and making Pesto at the Waggon & Horses a cornerstone of the Millhouses community.”
