HRH Prince William had a big surprise in store when he was greeted by a Sheffielder at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.
As a young friar Fr Luke spent six years as cantor of the Holy Sepulchre and he was there to guide HRH around the Basilica of the church.
He said: “He was naturally surprised but interested to find a Sheffielder at his side. He listened attentively to all the explanations and his reverence and simplicity was quite moving.”
He added: “I have a great love and devotion to this Church and all the reality of salvation it represents. I was there with Greek Orthodox and Armenian Patriarchs of Jerusalem. As we entered the Basilica he knelt and touched the unction stone where Jesus’ body had lain.”
