2016-17 FIXTURES: Highlights and lists in full for region's six clubs

The 2016-17 football fixtures have been released - and there are some real mouthwatering highlights for the region's six clubs.

Sheffield Wednesday begin their Championship campaign by hosting relegated Aston Villa on August 7 with a trip to Norwich the first away game for the Owls on August 13.

There are back to back local home derbies with Barnsley and Rotherham United on December 13 and 17 respectively with the return fixtures with the Tykes and Millers on April 1 and 4.

Sheffield United begin their League One campaign away at relegated Bolton Wanderers before taking on Rochdale at Bramall Lane on August 13.

They will visit near neighbours Chesterfield on November 12 with the Spireites being the Blades final game of the season on April 30.

Doncaster Rovers will kick off their season in League Two at Accrington Stanley on August 6 with Crawley Town the first visitors to the Keepmoat on August 13.

Darren Ferguson's side face away local derbies with Notts County on Boxing Day and Mansfield Town on New Year's Eve.

Rotherham United start their third consecutive season in the Championship at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers before travelling to relegated Aston Villa on August 13.

Barnsley themselves kick off at Ipswich before hosting Derby and will do battle with Rotherham at Oakwell on August 27 and then at the New York Stadium on January 28.

Chesterfield start their League One season at Oxford United with Swindon Town the first home fixture on August 13.
