IT may be frightfully frosty - but don’t dig the sledges out just yet.

Despite temperatures dropping dramatically over the weekend, and the mercury predicted to plunge to zero tonight, forecasters say there is little chance of snow this week.

It has been an unseasonably warm winter so far, compared to the extreme snowfall which caused chaos last year.

Weather forecaster Julian Mays said: “The high pressure area which is maintaining the cold snap at the moment will be drifting eastwards today. It means for Sheffield there will be little change, it’s still going to be dry and rather cold.

“The temperature will be about three degrees today and zero tonight.”

Things are set to start warming up on Wednesday - but the threat of the white stuff could return at the weekend.

Julian added: “It is going to turn rather cold again, and certainly by the weekend it is going to turn back to being cold. That gives a little chance of seeing snow, paticularly over the Pennines.”
