ShipShape Dads Group, based in The Stables, Sharrow, received £970 from Central England Co-operative’s Community Divided Fund.

The support group hosts a weekly playgroup for dads and their children in the outdoors, which allows youngsters to explore, enjoy fresh air and exercise along with taking part in crafts and other educational activities.

The money will be used to pay for new equipment to ensure the support group can continue to work with families for years to come.

The group meets at Highfield Adventure Playground on Saturdays from 10.30am to 12.30pm. It is free to attend and is aimed at youngsters aged under five.

Grants of between £100 and £5000 are handed out every three months to a wide range of applicants.

Martyn Cheatle, chief executive of Central England Co-operative, appealed for community groups and good causes from across South Yorkshire to apply for funding.

He said: “I would like to urge all of our members to get in touch and put forward a community cause close to their heart for the Community Dividend scheme.”

The fund guarantees that at least one per cent of the society’s trading profit is reinvested in communities in a bid to help projects to thrive across its trading area of 16 counties from the midlands to the east coast.

Potential applicants have to have been a Central England Co-operative member for six months and the project should be in the trading area of a co-operative store. In addition, all applications will need a referee. To apply for funding grants visit https://communities.centralengland.coop/ or pick up an application form from any Co-operative food store.
