Artists showcase their work in Sheffield Children's Hospital exhibition

Talented artists are displaying their work in Sheffield Children's Hospital to brighten up the place for patients, staff and visitors and to raise cash to fund an art programme.

This spring Artfelt, The Children’s Hospital Charity’s art programme, celebrates some of the region’s best local artists in The Long Gallery in the hospital.

Launched in 2012, Artfelt has bought 10 exhibitions to The Long Gallery, collaborating with artists, designers and national collections to brighten the hospital walls with a revolving programme of exhibitions.

Re-Present, the latest exhibition, is a collection of work from artists who have displayed in The Long Gallery before as well as those who Artfelt have commissioned in other areas of the hospital.

They are joined by new artists showcasing their work for the first time.

Re-Present hosts 35 artists including Pete McKee, James Green, Jonathan Wilkinson, India Hobson, Sarah Abbott and Nick Deakin.

James Green said: “A couple of years ago I was asked to exhibit my first ever solo print exhibition in The Long Gallery at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. I was flattered and really chuffed the patients enjoyed my work.

“Since then, I’ve been involved with several projects and commissions with the charity, so it is my pleasure to be involved with the final group exhibition in the current space and I’m excited to see The Long Gallery in its new home when the new wing of the hospital opens.”

Cat Powell, manager of Artfelt, said: “We put a call out to previous artists to get involved in the exhibition and the response was overwhelming. This exhibition is already creating such a buzz in the hospital which is amazing to see.”

Towards the end of the year The Long Gallery will move to a different home nearer the new main entrance.
